NYFW’s Biggest trends

As fashion month comes to a close, we’re here to talk about all the biggest trends that occurred on the runway. We’ve already covered Copenhagen, and now we’re on to New York. Perhaps one of the bigger fashion capitals that is always widely recognized for the major trends that come out of it, New York fashion week this year definitely came in for the kill.

With so many brands, there are plenty of silhouettes, styles, and trends that will be perfect for whatever aesthetic you prefer to dress in. From hyper-feminine to ultra-cozy, there really is something for everyone when it comes to fashion from New York this season. Instead of going in-depth on covering every little micro-trend that could be spotted on the runways for fall and winter, we created a list of every popular trend that will be sure to be all over your social media in six months.

So get comfy in your own skin because the no-pants trend has made it to runways, red seems to continue to be the color of the season, and right now it seems like the bigger the tote the better!

Flower Power

Florals in fall have been gaining popularity; whether the floral details are from subtle decorations to patterns or sequined daisies (as was seen at Colin Locascio), buds have been everywhere. Perhaps it’s the designer's way of giving a slight nod to climate change or just a simple way to bring in some bright colors. Either way, flower power in the fall seems to be a budding trend…pun intended.

A bow here, a bow there

Ribbons are always versatile, and because of this, they were tied up into neat little knots and placed throughout the runways. At Simone Rocha, the bow even went so far as to be used in makeup and was placed below the eyes in what Twitter dubbed ribbon tears. However, if you don’t plan to go that extreme with ribbons, then consider checking out the way that both Rodarte and Khaite used them for neckties…how traditional?

Drooping Shoulders

Some brands really brought back the ‘80s with intense power shoulders, but for the most part, it seems that we will be returning to the early 2010s with off-the-shoulder style tops. I know, the horror! Indie sleaze does seem to truly be back, though much improved. From Carolina Herrera to Kim Shui and Tory Burch, displaying the shoulders became the ultimate trend.

Ummm, where are your pants?

We saw it first on Bella Hadid, and then models and influencers alike adopted this trend on social media. Now, it’s officially hit runways so much that we can decree it as an official fall 2023 trend. At Christian Siriano, Prabal Gurung, and Dion Lee models were sent down the runway sans pants–and sometimes with tights

All about the totes

Micro-minis have had their time, but now it’s time for them to step out of the limelight. In their place comes every woman’s favorite accessory; the tote bag. Easy to store anything you might need for the next 24 hours, larger-than-life tote bags took precedence at Coach. Easier-to-wear bags, though, were presented at Brandon Maxwell and Proenza Schouler

Redder continues to be better

Just like in Copenhagen, red seemed to be the color of the season. Kim Shui, in particular, showcased a lot of head-to-toe red outfits. Along with her, Christian Siriano, Carolina Herrera, and Simkhai embraced the intense and passionate color.
