How Aeron’s Founder Eszter Áron Overcomes Challenges That Comes With Fashion Inclusivity

Hushed away from a rainy winter morning, Eszter Aron, the designer behind Aeron, unveiled her Autumn/Winter 2023 collection during Copenhagen Fashion Week. Loose shapes, draped forms, and soft hues were a dominant theme, as was knitwear - the signature fabric of the brand.

From long knit dresses and colorful outerwear to structured blazers and pants suits, models slowly walked around an airy spiral platform to reveal garments that inspired comfortable winter luxury. Yet, you couldn’t help but notice the women behind the clothes - a carefully selected group of models who harbored gray hair, voluptuous curves, or varied ethnicity.

I approached Eszter backstage to congratulate her and discuss the inclusivity approach she took for the collection. With a poise and grounded attitude, Eszter first reflected on the aesthetic of her approach as a whole: “The collection was created as we were starting to go back to work and in the office. Because one of our main focuses is dressing the modern woman with a timeless wardrobe, the soft beige, brown, and navy hues were inevitable. That said, we also added bright blue and orange tones along with paint-like zebra print to give it a splash of color.”

Some noteworthy looks included a chocolate-draped raincoat paired with a turquoise crew neck wrapped over the shoulder – the Scandi-way – and a cream sweater dress patterned like a fine checkerboard.

But creating over 30 looks, which needed to tick sustainability requirements imposed by Copenhagen Fashion Week didn’t come without challenges: “We always source fabric as close to home as feasible. We also watch our supply chain closely but because we want to be as inclusive as possible, these criteria can make things difficult, especially when it comes to creating different sample sizes. Most only come in Small.” Yet, that didn’t stop Eszter - who went above and beyond to feature garments – and models – of all sizes on the runway.

“We’re so grateful to be able to show our collection at Copenhagen Fashion Week,” she adds. “Their requirements push us to constantly do better, not just when it comes to sustainability but inclusivity. Each garment is of the highest quality but we also want it to be timeless, something that can be invested in by any woman – no matter their history – and that will stand the test of time.”

As the first show launching Copenhagen Fashion Week A/W 2023, Aeron sets a standard that goes beyond sustainability and beautifully crafted clothes to offer one that includes and celebrates all women.
