Let me take you by the hand and show you the fashion on the streets of London

Fashion weeks around the world are just as well known for their street fashion as they are their actual shows. People living in the fashion capitals use fashion week as the perfect opportunity to flaunt their most extravagant and unique clothes, even if they’re not actually attending the shows themselves. After all, if you can’t wear it to fashion week, when can you wear it? Just as the song by Ralph McTell goes, “let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London; show you something to make you change your mind.”

This is a look for warmer climes. Well, the one on the left certainly is! Isolating that look for now, I think it’s safe to say that the 90s are back. Can you just imagine wearing that luminescent shirt to your school disco?! The two outfits really shouldn’t work together but they kind of do. The contrast of fluorescent colours against a grey suit makes the pair balance each other out. It just goes to show that a drab grey suit can be elevated with some chunky gold jewellery, sunglasses and a dressy crop top. We’re taking the business look from the office to the (hypothetical) catwalk.

I heard on the grapevine that pirate chic is back. Maybe it’s in honour of the late Vivienne Westwood. We may never know the reason behind the first look in this picture but what we do know is that we are being served 18th century realness with a killer pair of knee high boots. Let’s pray to the fashion Gods that frilly shirts make a comeback for both men and women. We need this. Despite being an entirely different aesthetic, the green ensemble complements the pirate look so nicely. I’m sensing a 90s theme running through our streetwear this season…

This lady is cool. She knows she’s cool. That coat makes a massive statement. We’re definitely seeing a lot of sunglasses this year despite it being England in February. Let me tell you first hand, it is most certainly not sunglasses weather yet. But hey, it’s fashion week. Cameras are everywhere and people have the right to wear sunglasses and pretend they’re a celebrity heading to the show if they want to. One thing that is not lacking is confidence. Orange and blue are opposite each other on the colour wheel which makes them complimentary colours. This means that they don’t necessarily seem like they should go together, but they do. In the case of this coat, the shades couldn’t possibly complement each other anymore and the addition of the checkerboard at the bottom is just *chefs kiss*.

Sit back, relax, and let the beauty of this look sink in. Doesn’t it make you wonder what the high/low jacket hem looks like from behind? The delicate femininity of the lace dress, cream tights, and Mary Jane shoes contrast so gracefully against the oversized PVC jacket and chunky soles. This is something that we’re seeing a lot of on TikTok at the moment. We’re seeing overly feminine pieces paired with huge boots and coats that could pass for menswear. From top to bottom this outfit says “yes, I’m a woman, but you don’t want to get on the wrong side of me”. Femininity really is getting a dramatic make over this season. Rather than refusing to dress in a hyper-feminine fashion, women are dressing more feminine than we’ve seen in a long time but twisting it from submissive to dominant.

Not too dissimilar from the first picture, we have yet another oversized power suit. The only difference this time is the striking shade difference between the jacket and trousers. It seems like an unspoken rule in fashion that you shouldn’t mix your shades of white, and your suit should be matching but this goes against everything we’re used to. If this outfit was worn with a different colour top, it would not work. The white vest matches the trousers and this creates a harmony between the top and bottom, meaning the jacket gets away with being a cream colour. The silvery hair probably also helps unite the whole look together. Even the addition of the shades ties the black sandals into coherence. What seems like a very simple outfit at first glance, is actually very well put together and properly thought through.
